InterDent was founded over 30 years ago by a group of dentists who realized that they could provide better patient care if someone else handled the administrative and business aspects of a practice.
 
Today, under the brands Gentle Dental and Smile Keepers, our dental service organization (DSO) provides business support to over 200 practices in eight states including Arizona, California, Hawaii, Kansas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon and Washington.
 
InterDent is based out of Inglewood, CA with a second office in Vancouver, WA and backed by the private equity firm H.I.G.  This position is based in Inglewood, CA. 
 
Position Summary:
Reporting to the General Counsel, the Senior Counsel is a business-oriented legal advisor who works closely with management, business support staff, operational leaders, dental affiliates and other business partners to provide a broad range of legal and related support services.  
 
Senior Counsel is responsible for proactively assessing and managing risks and addressing both routine and strategic legal matters.   The successful candidate will be familiar with or develop expertise in a variety of areas of the law, including contracting, general corporate matters, employment law, litigation and health care law, among others.  The Senior Counsel is also responsible for proactively managing and directing the provision of outside legal services. 
 
Major Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare, review, draft and negotiate company contracts, including vendor agreements, employment, consulting and IC agreements, NDAs, provider agreements, technology and other commercial arrangements.
  • Assist with corporate /governance matters, including board approvals, PC ownership changes, corporate recordkeeping, filings and reporting.
  • Advise on health care and general business laws and regulations.
  • Assist on acquisitions, affiliations and other strategic business opportunities.
  • Manage various health care, employment and other commercial litigation and foster positive, cost-effective outside counsel relationships.
  • Keep informed of industry-specific laws and regulations and develop strategies to avoid litigation, regulatory exposure and other risks.
  • Support the company’s code of conduct and other compliance policies and programs. 
     
Required Skills & Experience:
  • The successful candidate should possess at least 5-10 years legal experience, including foundational training in a law firm and in-house experience.
  • A strong academic record, J.D. and licensure in good standing is required.
  • The position requires a confident and experienced attorney with a solid track record of managing a broad range of legal issues and interacting closely with business leaders.
  • The ideal candidate is a strong technical lawyer, detail oriented, organized, responsive and deadline driven, adept at spotting issues and a pragmatic problem solver and a self-starter with the ability to work quickly and efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills are essential.
  • Experience with health industry laws and regulation is a plus.
